Countering the Culture

Countering the Culture

Christian and non-Christian youth alike are bombarded daily as today’s culture attempts to rob them of moral absolutes. This lack of a moral barometer creates a tumultuous sea of confusion for today’s girls.

Girls want to make meaning out of their lives and statistics show that girls have a high desire to believe in a higher being. What will that belief system be? Will it be of false idols or the one true God? According to Barna Research, if youth do not make a commitment to Christ by age 12, the probability of them finding Him during their life is extremely low.

Given the pop-culture icons present in today’s society, there is an obvious need for a cultural change for our nation and its daughters; a need for girls to know the love of Christ, the joy of lasting friendships and the fun of new wholesome experiences –in essence, the need for a ministry for girls that has transforming significance.  Please watch our promotional video “Countering the Culture.”

While AHG’s mission statement is to “Build women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country”, we recognize that our overall mission as part of God’s family is the Great Commission, as commanded by our Lord, Jesus Christ.

The small, all-girl unit, within the AHG Troop structure, provides a nurturing environment ripe for learning and the building of positive relationships. The AHG program grows as a girl grows. The program structure allows a girl to be involved from age 5 to well into adulthood. This longevity of experience and consistency of messaging allows the program to be life changing to its members. Remembering that God has assured us His presence throughout our journey, we will endeavor to teach our nation’s daughters of the love of the Father through the AHG ministry. Please join with us in striving towards our Great Commission.

Cute Troop Scouting Songs

Tonight at dinner my husband began singing an old scouting song he remembered from his youth.  He could not remember all of it, so he decided to look it up on the computer, online, after dinner.

Here was the silly song he was singing.  It was very entertaining for our girls as they tried to figure out the ‘play-on-words’ going on with each line of the song.

Too cute!  Go to this site for even more scouting songs: http://www.scoutsongs.com/lyrics/delaware.htm

(I have not reviewed the whole site, so please take responsibility for any pages you choose to view.)

What Did Delaware, Boys?

Suggested by Bill McGinnis

Oh, what did Delaware, boys? Oh, what did Delaware?
Oh, what did Delaware, boys? Oh, what did Delaware?
Oh, what did Delaware, boys? Oh, what did Delaware?
I ask you now as a personal friend, what did Delaware?

She wore her New Jersey, boys. She wore her New Jersey.
She wore her New Jersey, boys. She wore her New Jersey.
She wore her New Jersey, boys. She wore her New Jersey.
I tell you now as a personal friend, she wore her New Jersey.

Other verse pairs include:

Oh, what does Iowa? She weighs a Washington.
Oh, what does Idaho? She hoes her Maryland.
Oh, what does Tennessee? She sees what Arkansas.
Oh, where has Oregon? She’s gone to Oklahoma.
Oh, what did Massa-chew? She chewed her Connecti-cud.
Oh, how did Flori-die? She died in Missouri.

Here’s a second version of the song, which appears to go to a
different tune than the song above.

What did Delaware, boys?
What did Delaware?
What did Delaware, boys?
What did Delaware?
She wore a brand New Jersey,
She wore a brand New Jersey,
She wore a brand New Jersey,
That’s what she did wear.

Why did Cali-phone ya,
Why did Cali-phone?
Why did Cali-phone ya,
Was she all alone?
She phoned to say “Hawaii”
She phoned to say (“How-ah-yee”)
She phoned to say “Hawaii”
That’s why she did phone.

Where has Oregon, boys,
Where has Oregon?
If you want Alaska,
(I’ll-ask-a) where she’s gone.
She went to pay her Texas
She went to pay her Texas
She went to pay her Texas,
That’s where she has gone.

What did Mississip, boys,
What did Mississip?
What did Mississip, boys,
Through her pretty lips?
She sipped a Minna-soda,
She sipped a Minna-soda,
She sipped a Minna-soda,
That’s what she did sip.

How did Wiscon-sin, boys?
She stole a New-brass-key,
Too bad that Arkan-saw, boys,
And so did Tenna-see.
It made poor Flori-die, boys,
It made poor Flori-die, you see,
She died in Missouri, boys,
She died in Missouri!

AHG Troop FL 3110 is Coming to Pinewood!

Image

Hello World!

A new American Heritage Girls (AHG) troop is coming to Pinewood.  If you have been considering getting involved in an American Heritage Girls troop in the Middleburg/Orange Park area, here is another option for you.

The Pinewood-sponsored American Heritage Girls Troop has been approved and paperwork is being filled out for leaders now.  The first week of July 2013 we will have a round-up meeting for girls and parents to learn more about our troop and how it will operate. If you are coming from another troop or have been considering AHG for a while, this would be the perfect time to complete your paperwork, pay for your uniforms, choose an area to volunteer in the troop, introduce your girls to the other girls, and get geared up for the first troop meeting in August!

Troop 3110 (Proverbs 31:10) will meet on MONDAY nights from 5:57PM-7:30PM.

We are looking for all parents to be involved in some way, even if it is simply on a rotational basis.  With many hands, the work will be very light for us all.  However, what we are asking for now is for those who are considering joining the Pinewood-sponsored AHG Troop 3110 for the 2013-2014 school year to consider being unit leaders, assistants, or coordinators in various areas of the troop.  We will find something to fit your personality and skills.  Until those positions are filled, we cannot guarantee a spot for your child.  (Note—Unit leaders are those who run individual groups of girls within the troop.  Assistant Unit Leaders help the Unit Leader with lessons, crafts, games, badge work, etc.)  We guarantee that you will find your time in the troop rewarding and you will enjoy watching your girls grow in their love of the Lord, serve in their community, and support their country.

For additional information, please feel free to contact us by email at: ahg_troop_3110@hotmail.com

We look forward to seeing all girls in our area involved in one of the 5 local troops!  There are plenty to choose from!  What a thrill! Come on out and see what AHG has to offer your girls and your family!

Feel free to email any questions that you might have.  We’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

What is American Heritage Girls (AHG)?

American Heritage Girls is a Christ-centered scouting program for girls ages 5 to 18. Troops consist of various ages allowing for a unique multilevel programming concept. This family-friendly model not only allows sisters to be in the same troop, but allows girls to gain leadership skills as they mentor younger troop members and younger girls to have older girls as role models.

The AHG experience will provide the girls with the opportunity for fun and growth with events such as camping trips, community service projects, patriotic salutes, and father-daughter activities. All AHG events are designed to breathe life into the AHG Oath and nurture the girls’ relationship with God and family.

AHG troop meets once a week to learn new skills, perform service projects, grow in their faith, develop leadership skill, experience teamwork, build friendships and strengthen their character. Girls earn badges by completing certain milestone activities at each program level in such diverse interest areas as: outdoor skills, family living, government, science and technology.

If you would like more information about the program or to locate a troop in your area, please go to http://www.ahgonline.org/.
